Elephant

$250.00

Seeing an elephant up-close, he was all ears and trunk. That image stuck in my mind, so I used it here as a repeat elephant design. Like most elephants, the shape of the bowl is perfectly asymmetric, a little rough, imperfect, functional and beautiful.

This is a hand-formed bowl made of coarse, brown, high-fired stoneware, approximately 7" tall and 13" in diameter. I used a brown clay with manganese particle, which burn though at high temperature, creating the speckled effect. I used a Shino glaze on the elephants. Shino glazes breaks over texture and edges to a rust-brown, giving the elephants a little depth and variation. The body of the pot is stained with a cooper base glaze, rubbing off any build-up to keep a matt finish.

Several years ago I started to study tattoo art. I wanted to use this on my work and liked the concept of adding designs and shapes to tell stories and establish identity. So, I started tattooing my pots. The herd of elephants on this pot is a continuation of the Tattooed Pot Series.

I make my pots to be different from each other. Each one has its own personality. I like similar repetition, but not crazy about duplicates. Hopefully, you will never find two of my pots that are the same.

With that said, a few pictures do not do a good job of helping you see a pot. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly for additional views. I will be happy to send you additional shots or short video to assist in your selection.
